To return

It's been an interesting week.  I have returned to the office and the job I left, more than a year ago, to do something quite different.  The reason I left or why I have now returned don't really matter, the fact is: I am back.

I thought - or maybe I was afraid of, I don't know - that after all that time away, the office would seem remote, the language: foreign and hard to understand, the people: strangers (in truth, some of them are).

Maybe I was expecting all of that to amount to some kind of sign?, something to let me know if I had done the right thing coming back (I did have a choice).

That, is what I thought.

And then, I was there, and I realized that the office I hadn't set foot in for months was (again) like home-away-from-home, I was fluent in the language and everyone around me seemed familiar, even those I had never met before.  It was interesting, and amazing, and maybe even a little scary at the same time, to realize how much of that place is embedded in me.

Now we will have to see about the actual work and knowledge about doing it being embedded... but I am hopeful that I will also remember what that was all about.  My new couch and other things I like to think of as the-other-side-of-the-coin depend on it.

But in any case, I wonder: is that all there is to a return?
